The Tomb – The aedicule, the artificial structure that stands in the center of the anastasis, simulates the original two-roomed tomb of hewn stone. One enters the first room, the Chapel of the Angel, where a richly ornamented cube of marble is encased. It is believed to have been part of the tomb cover on which the angel was seated when the women came to anoint Jesus’ body on Sunday morning and found the tomb empty.
